The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has been honoured with the Excellence in Public Service of the Year Award by the African Iconic Women Recognition Awards (AIWRA).
The award was presented during the Face of Democracy Nigeria (FDN) Women Leadership Summit held in Abuja on Saturday, May 23, 2026, where several distinguished women, including Honourable Ministers, senior public officials, and private sector entrepreneurs, were also recognised for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar was represented at the event by a delegation led by Mrs. Bolanle Ojo, Deputy Director, Special Duties.
While receiving the award on behalf of the NEMA Director General, Mrs. Ojo expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, noting that Mrs. Umar dedicated the honour to the staff of NEMA and the agency’s stakeholders for their unwavering commitment and support toward effective disaster management and humanitarian service delivery.
The recognition adds to the growing list of honours received by the NEMA boss for her contributions to public service and humanitarian coordination, having previously been celebrated as the African Iconic Woman in Public Service last year.
