The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced special concessions on nomination and expression of interest forms for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities ahead of the 2027 general elections, as part of efforts to promote inclusiveness and broader participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
According to an official signed statement by the National Secretary of the party, Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu, the initiative reflects the party’s commitment to ensuring that all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora, are actively integrated into the nation’s electoral process.
Enekweizu stated that the NDC believes financial limitations, age, or physical disabilities should not prevent citizens from contributing meaningfully to nation-building through elective positions.
“The fact that someone is young and may not be a money bag or is disadvantaged by some physical disabilities should not shut him or her from contributing their quota to nation-building,” he stated.
The NDC National Secretary further noted that women in Nigeria have historically faced cultural and systemic barriers that limit their political participation, stressing that affirmative action remains necessary to encourage greater inclusion.
According to him, excluding women from active political participation would amount to short-changing the country, considering that they represent nearly half of Nigeria’s population.
To address this imbalance, the party announced that all female aspirants contesting on the platform of the NDC would pay only 50 per cent of the advertised costs for both Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms currently on sale.
Similarly, aspirants between the ages of 18 and 35 are also entitled to a 50 per cent reduction in the cost of the forms, while persons living with disabilities are to pay only 25 per cent of the advertised fees.
The statement further clarified that Presidential, Governorship, and National Assembly nomination forms would be obtained at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, while forms for State Houses of Assembly elections would be collected from NDC state offices across the country.
