The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has raised concern over the persistent misuse and incorrect appellation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by some organisations and media outlets.

In a statement made available by Yomi Odunuga, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yomi Odunuga, said the clarification followed recurring errors observed in official and media publications.

The statement noted that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, personally signed the clarification and urged media organisations and members of the public to always verify official titles before publication to avoid what he described as embarrassing mistakes.

“For the record, the correct and official appellation is: His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Akume stated.

The SGF further advised organisations seeking clarification on official titles and government information to verify through the Office’s official communication channels, including Facebook (@OfficeoftheSGF), Instagram (OfficialOSGFNG), X formerly Twitter (@OfficialOSGF), and email via info@osgf.gov.ng.

According to the statement, the clarification became necessary after an error was observed in the naming and appellation of the President in a publication by a national daily on Wednesday, May 7, 2026.

Akume stressed that such lapses could be avoided through proper verification from the appropriate government sources before publication.
