The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Saturday organised its Mid-Year Route Walk in Abuja as part of efforts to promote the health, fitness and wellbeing of its workforce, with a view to enhancing operational efficiency in emergency management and disaster response.

The exercise, held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, was led by the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who was represented by the Director of Special Duties, Mrs. Fatima Suleiman Kasim. The event attracted members of staff who participated in various fitness activities designed to promote healthy living and improve physical preparedness for emergency response operations.

Speaking on behalf of the Director-General, Mrs. Kasim reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of its personnel, commending staff for their enthusiastic participation in the exercise.

She stressed that maintaining good physical fitness is indispensable for emergency responders, whose responsibilities often require endurance, agility and resilience in responding to disasters and other humanitarian emergencies.

Also speaking, the Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore Usman Bature, said the Mid-Year Route Walk was organised to encourage staff to remain physically fit and adopt healthier lifestyles.

He urged personnel to make regular exercise a part of their daily routine, noting that a healthy workforce is critical to the Agency’s ability to deliver timely and effective emergency response services across the country.

The Mid-Year Route Walk is one of NEMA’s staff welfare initiatives aimed at fostering a healthy, motivated and productive workforce capable of delivering efficient disaster management and humanitarian services to Nigerians.
