The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Women Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (WCCIMA) have commenced discussions on a strategic partnership aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs and strengthening community resilience through disaster preparedness training.
The proposed collaboration was discussed on Thursday when the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, received the Executive Secretary of WCCIMA, Mrs. Samirah Saleh-Jimeta, during a courtesy visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, Mrs. Saleh-Jimeta said the visit was aimed at exploring areas of collaboration between both organisations, particularly in supporting women entrepreneurs through patronage of their products and services, while also equipping women with basic disaster management and preparedness skills.
She stressed the importance of empowering women through capacity building initiatives capable of enhancing disaster awareness and resilience within communities.
Responding, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, appreciated the WCCIMA Executive Secretary for the visit and expressed readiness to work with the organisation in advancing initiatives that would benefit women and vulnerable communities.
Mrs. Umar noted that empowering women with basic disaster management knowledge remained critical to promoting safety, preparedness and resilience at the grassroots level.
