The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has called for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Correctional Service to enhance efficiency across the country’s criminal justice system.

Disu made the call on April 21, 2026, during a strategic courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Correctional Service in Abuja, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen inter-agency cooperation.

In an official signed statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, disclosed that the IGP stressed the need for improved collaboration in intelligence sharing, custodial security, and coordinated criminal justice administration.

He noted that effective synergy between both institutions is critical to strengthening national security and ensuring a seamless justice process, adding that closer cooperation would enhance investigative outcomes, reduce delays in prosecution, and support ongoing reforms within the correctional system.

The police chief reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to fostering institutional partnerships aimed at improving operational efficiency and reinforcing the integrity of the justice value chain.

In his response, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, commended the IGP for the visit, describing it as historic and a clear demonstration of commitment to inter-agency collaboration.

Nwakuche noted that the visit marked the first time a serving Inspector-General of Police had officially visited the headquarters of the Service, underscoring its significance in advancing criminal justice reform.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in intelligence sharing and custodial management, while also advocating for enhanced joint training programmes to boost professionalism, coordination, and operational effectiveness across both agencies.
