The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Friday decorated 38 senior officers with the rank of Wing Commander in a colourful ceremony held at the NAF Officers’ Mess in Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening operational leadership and enhancing combat readiness across the Service.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal SK Aneke, described the promotion as a well-deserved recognition of discipline, character, and sustained excellence in service. He noted that the elevation of the officers reflects their professionalism and readiness to assume higher command responsibilities within the evolving national security environment.
The CAS, who was represented by the Chief of Administration at Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal AA Martins, said the newly promoted officers had consistently demonstrated leadership capacity, sound judgement, and commitment to mission success.
According to him, the evolving nature of contemporary security challenges requires officers who are focused, adaptable, and operationally decisive. He expressed confidence that the new Wing Commanders would strengthen command effectiveness, sustain the momentum of ongoing air operations, and further enhance combat readiness across operational theatres.
Aneke stressed that leadership is not defined merely by rank but by integrity, courage, and the ability to inspire others. He therefore charged the officers to lead with fairness, serve with honour, and remain steadfast in upholding the core values and fighting spirit of the Nigerian Air Force in support of national security objectives.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commander, Headquarters NAF Camp Abuja, Air Commodore Imoke, reminded the officers that their new rank represents not only professional achievement but also a greater call to service, accountability, and institutional responsibility.
He urged them to wear the rank with humility, courage, and unwavering professionalism in keeping with the proud traditions and enduring ethos of the Nigerian Air Force.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers, families, friends, and well-wishers, underscoring the significance of the milestone in strengthening the leadership cadre of the Nigerian Air Force and reinforcing its operational effectiveness.
