The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mahmud Adam Kambari, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening aviation safety, institutional collaboration and staff welfare following a strategic visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency in Abuja.
The visit formed part of Kambari’s ongoing familiarisation tour of agencies under the ministry, aimed at deepening institutional alignment, enhancing collaboration and reviewing operational priorities across Nigeria’s aviation sector.
During the engagement, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Charles Anosike, presented an overview of the agency’s mandate, operational capabilities and key strategic initiatives.
Anosike highlighted the critical role NiMet plays within the aviation industry and other sectors of the national economy, noting that the agency provides vital meteorological information that supports safe air navigation, national planning, disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.
He drew attention to some of NiMet’s major technical publications, including the Aeronautical Meteorological Bulletin and the Seasonal Climate Prediction, which provide essential weather and climate intelligence for aviation operators, policymakers and other stakeholders.
According to the NiMet chief, meteorological services have evolved far beyond traditional weather observation and forecasting to become indispensable tools for national security, economic stability, food security and sustainable development.
He explained that accurate and timely weather and climate information is crucial in safeguarding lives, protecting property and supporting livelihoods across multiple sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Anosike also outlined key institutional milestones achieved by the agency, including the attainment of internationally recognised ISO certifications, which he said reflect NiMet’s commitment to global best practices and high standards in service delivery.
He further highlighted the agency’s expanding partnerships with national institutions and international organisations, noting that such collaborations are helping to strengthen technical capacity, improve service delivery and enhance Nigeria’s resilience to climate-related risks.
In his remarks, Kambari commended NiMet for its strategic contributions to aviation safety and national development, stressing that effective collaboration and strong institutional synergy remain essential to achieving the broader objectives of the aviation sector.
He emphasised the importance of capacity building and aligning agency operations with national aviation priorities, noting that such efforts are key to delivering efficient and reliable services across the industry.
The permanent secretary also underscored the need to prioritise staff welfare within government institutions, describing a motivated and well-supported workforce as fundamental to effective service delivery.
Kambari reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting NiMet in strengthening its operational capacity, advancing workforce development and sustaining high-quality meteorological services that meet both national and international standards.
He was accompanied on the visit by directors and other senior officials of the ministry.
The engagement, officials said, aligns with the broader vision of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to promote greater synergy, innovation and efficiency among agencies under the ministry while strengthening Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.
