The Imo State chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has held its first inaugural meeting of the state executive committee in Owerri, with party leaders outlining strategies to strengthen the party’s structure and mobilise members across the state.

Speaking during the well-attended meeting, the state chairman of the party, Barrister Reginald Uwakwe, revealed that the party was officially registered barely two months ago but had already commenced activities aimed at building a strong grassroots presence.

He explained that the party had begun a statewide membership drive through its online registration portal and encouraged party officials to mobilise residents in their respective wards to join the party.

According to him, prospective members are required to present either their National Identity Number (NIN) or voter’s card to complete the registration process.

Barrister Uwakwe also disclosed that the national leadership of the party had directed that each ward should register at least 300 members as part of the initial membership mobilisation target.

He therefore urged party officers to print registration forms and distribute the online registration links within their wards to facilitate the ongoing membership drive.

To further strengthen the mobilisation process, the state chairman announced that two committees, the Contact and Mobilisation Committee and the Finance Committee would be constituted immediately in line with directives from the national leadership of the party.

He called on members of the party across Imo State to intensify efforts to ensure that more people register and participate in building the party.

Also speaking at the meeting, the South-East National Vice Chairman of the party, Chief Tedy Obey, emphasised the importance of online registration, urging all officers and leaders of the party to lead by example by registering through the NDC online portal.

Chief Obey further called on party leaders to intensify mobilisation efforts in their communities, particularly targeting women and youths, in line with the directive of the party’s national leadership in Abuja.

He encouraged the interim state officers to remain committed to building the party’s structure, assuring them that their dedication would yield positive outcomes in the future.

In her remarks, the State Woman Leader, Mrs Uche Judith Ngozi, expressed satisfaction with the calibre of individuals who had joined the party, noting that she would deploy her political experience to contribute to the growth and success of the party in the state.

Meanwhile, Barrister Uwakwe disclosed that the party leadership was working diligently to ensure that functional party structures were established across all wards, local government areas and zones in Imo State as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s presence at the grassroots.
