By Nkechi Eze

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have intensified security operations across the Jos metropolis in Plateau State as part of efforts to curb the escalation of tensions and restore normalcy in affected communities.

The proactive measures followed the launch of a comprehensive stop-and-search exercise across the city on Friday, aimed at strengthening security presence and safeguarding lives and property.

In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Oteh, the operation yielded immediate results with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of weapons.

According to the statement, troops intercepted a fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a pump-action firearm and a cutlass during targeted operations carried out in several flashpoints and transit routes across the city.

The areas covered during the operation included Jos North, Jos South, Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada and the State Low-Cost Housing Estate.

In a related development, troops also responded to a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire around the Yelwa Cattle Market area of Shendam.

On arrival at the scene, the security personnel applied superior tactical pressure, forcing the unidentified gunmen to flee into nearby bushes.

During a subsequent search of the area, troops discovered two local residents who had sustained gunshot wounds during the incident.

The victims were promptly evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent medical attention.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong and dominant security presence across Plateau State to prevent further violence.

According to the command, security operations will continue with greater intensity until the threat of violence is completely neutralised and lasting peace is restored in all affected communities across the state.
