The Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities with the arrest of a suspected kidnapper and the recovery of an assault rifle.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, Ramhan Nansel, the arrest was made on March 20, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., following credible intelligence received from the Unit Commander of the 38 Police Mobile Force, Akwanga.
According to the statement, security operatives were alerted to the presence of a suspected kidnapper seen in possession of a firearm within the area. Acting promptly on the intelligence, a team of Mobile Police officers was deployed to the location, leading to the successful arrest of one Sale Hassan, a 32-year-old resident of Rugan Hassan in the Adudu Community, Awe Local Government Area.
A search conducted on the suspect resulted in the recovery of an AK-49 rifle along with four rounds of live 7.56mm ammunition.
The police said the suspect, alongside the recovered weapon and ammunition, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and further necessary action, including efforts to apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state. He also called on members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance ongoing operations.
