The Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi, has dedicated the Federal Ministry of Works’ triumph at the 2025 Federal Public Service Games (FEPSGA) to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The trophy and gold medal were formally presented to Minister Umahi by the Ministry’s Sports Club during a surprise ceremony held on Wednesday at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja. The event was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Directors, Union leaders, and other staff members.
Receiving the accolades, Engr. Umahi expressed gratitude to God Almighty and commended the Ministry’s sportsmen and women for their outstanding performance, which earned recognition among participating Ministries, extra-ministerial Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including a gold medal in the March Pass category.
“I congratulate our sportsmen and women who have made us proud. I dedicate this trophy and medal to Mr. President, in appreciation of his unprecedented support to the Federal Ministry of Works and his unwavering commitment to infrastructure development across the country,” he said.
The Minister also reassured staff that their welfare remains a top priority under his leadership, pledging continued support in training, staff welfare, and improved workplace conditions.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Rafiu Adeladan, described the presentation as a token of appreciation for the Minister’s encouragement and support for both official responsibilities and sports development. He highlighted Umahi’s contributions to staff capacity building, talent management, and enhancing the value proposition of workers, in line with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP).
The Director of Human Resources Management, Ahmad Muhammad Tukur, praised the Minister’s leadership, noting significant improvements in staff competencies and expanded training opportunities across professional fields, as well as welfare initiatives beyond traditional benefits.
Similarly, the Union Chairman, Kuti William Omobolanle, commended Umahi for his people-centred administration and commitment to staff development, citing recent approvals for training programmes and welfare interventions as evidence.
Presenting the trophy on behalf of the Sports Club, Assistant Sports Manager, Temitayo Florence Omotosho, confirmed that the Ministry secured first place in the March Pass category at FEPSGA 2025, attributing the success to the Minister’s financial, moral, and administrative support.
Minister Umahi urged staff to renew their commitment to public service, emphasizing transparency, professionalism, courage, and the fear of God. He announced plans to intensify training programmes across all cadres beginning in April as part of ongoing reforms to enhance productivity and service excellence.
He further disclosed that the Ministry will organise a nationwide gathering of its workforce to celebrate collective achievements and acknowledge President Tinubu’s steadfast support for the works sector.
