The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has commenced a nationwide operational tour with Kwara State as the first point of call, as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and engage critical stakeholders across the country.

The Police chief arrived on Monday at the Gen. Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, where he was received by the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adekimi Ojo, alongside commanders of other security agencies, senior police officers, government officials, members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, and other key stakeholders.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the decision to begin the nationwide tour in Kwara State was influenced by the IGP’s recent operational engagement in the state shortly before his appointment as head of the Nigeria Police Force.

Addressing officers and stakeholders at the Command Headquarters in Ilorin, the police chief noted that his recent operational experience in the state informed his decision to start the tour there.

During the visit, the IGP held strategic meetings with serving and retired police officers, government officials, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to discuss prevailing security challenges and explore ways of strengthening the state’s security architecture.

He assured participants of his commitment to enhancing operational capacity to effectively tackle criminal activities threatening peace and stability in the state.

In further demonstration of his proactive leadership approach, the IGP conducted an on-the-spot operational assessment of identified security flashpoints across the state.

The tour took him to Kaiama in Kaiama Local Government Area, an area recently affected by attacks from armed bandits.

During the visit, he paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Kaiama, Muazu Shehu Omar, where he met with district heads, members of the emirate council, senior police officers, representatives of security agencies and government officials.

While interacting with community leaders and stakeholders, the Inspector-General assured them of his determination to deploy the necessary resources and operational support to the Kwara State Police Command to strengthen its capacity to combat banditry, terrorism and other forms of criminality.

He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives and property and restoring lasting peace and security across the state.
