Troops of the COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7, working alongside the 8 Division Strike Team under the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully dealt a significant blow to a notorious terrorist network in Kadam Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State.

In an official statement, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, disclosed that the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that over 100 terrorists had gathered deep within the forest to plan attacks and kidnap locals for transport to their strongholds. Troops moved swiftly to intercept the militants, making contact at around 1200 hours.

“The ensuing firefight was fierce and sustained,” Lt. Col. Osoba said. “When the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, our troops responded with superior firepower, neutralising the threat and maintaining tactical dominance throughout the engagement.”

Exploitation operations confirmed the deaths of three terrorists, with several others believed to have been injured while fleeing. Security forces recovered one PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62 Special, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles, and a mobile phone. Follow-up operations are ongoing to confirm additional enemy casualties and recover further materiel.

Troop morale remains high, with their fighting efficiency described as strong and unwavering. The Nigerian Army affirmed that intelligence-driven, joint operations continue to degrade terrorist networks and disrupt their capabilities.

Aggressive patrols and sustained offensives remain ongoing across the region to exploit this success, disrupt fleeing militants, and prevent their regrouping.
