The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 2,339 staff members in its 2025 Senior Staff Promotion Exercise, a move aimed at reinforcing career progression, institutional continuity and organisational stability within the Commission.

The decision was taken at the Commission’s meeting held on Thursday, 26 February 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal capacity ahead of future electoral engagements.

At the Directorate level (Grade Levels 16–17), 45 Deputy Directors were elevated to the rank of Directors. Of this number, 18 will remain in active service, while 27 are due for retirement shortly after their promotion, in line with public service regulations.

Similarly, at GL 15–16, 91 Assistant Directors were promoted to Deputy Directors, while 82 Chief Officers on GL 14–15 advanced to the rank of Assistant Directors.

The promotion exercise also covered 2,121 intermediate officers on GL 07–13 across various departments of the Commission, reflecting a broad-based restructuring across multiple cadres.

INEC noted that the promotions were conducted in accordance with established guidelines and extant public service rules, underscoring its commitment to due process and transparency.

The Commission stated that the exercise demonstrates its resolve to reward merit, dedication and years of service, while sustaining leadership depth across its structures. It added that strengthening internal human capacity remains critical as preparations continue toward forthcoming electoral activities.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, INEC urged them to redouble their commitment to professionalism, integrity and impartial service in the discharge of their responsibilities, reiterating that institutional credibility depends on the quality and conduct of its workforce.
