In a decisive action against drug trafficking, troops of the 35 Artillery Brigade intercepted 296 large wraps of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa along the Abeokuta–Igboora Road in Ogun State. The operation, conducted in the early hours of 1 March 2026 following a strategic tip-off, saw security forces act swiftly to curb the movement of illicit drugs in the state.

According to Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 35 Artillery Brigade, the troops intercepted a lone motorcycle without a registration number carrying the suspected drugs concealed in three massive sacks at about 4:30 a.m. The suspect reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into the dense bush under the cover of darkness, evading arrest.

“The recovered substances have been handed over to the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, for further action,” Major Akari stated, highlighting the cooperation between the Army and regulatory agencies in tackling drug-related crimes.

The 35 Artillery Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to making Ogun State unsafe for drug traffickers and criminal elements, urging individuals involved in illicit activities to desist and engage in legitimate ventures. The Brigade also reassured residents of their continued presence and dedication to protecting lives, properties, and maintaining law and order across the state.

This operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s proactive approach to disrupting criminal networks and reinforces its role in safeguarding communities from illegal activities.
