In a heartfelt celebration of service, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) honoured Barr. Grace Agha-Ibe, fsi, as she retired from her position as Director of the Proceeds of Crime Department (POCD), marking a distinguished career spanning 24 years. The occasion also coincided with her birthday, making the event a dual celebration of professional achievement and personal milestone.

Organised by the Commission’s Special Services Department (SSD), colleagues, friends, and well-wishers gathered to pay tribute to a career characterised by discipline, integrity, and mentorship. Speaking at the event, SSD Director Prince Hassan Mohammed described Barr. Agha-Ibe as “a great individual whose career is fulfilled,” noting that her blueprint continues to sustain the department’s progress. He further expressed confidence that her future contributions would remain a beacon of hope, while also acknowledging the efforts of the planning committee for orchestrating the memorable ceremony.

Acting Director of POCD, Mr. George Lawal, reflected on knowing Barr. Agha-Ibe for 24 years, summarising her leadership style in two words: “firm and fair.” He prayed for divine reward for her years of service and mentorship, adding that her exemplary exit would serve as an inspiration to others.

Tributes flowed from colleagues across the Commission. Senior officer Mr. Umar Babangida recounted her fair handling of a complex matter, which left a lasting impression despite not having worked directly under her. Mr. Dozie Ihezue praised her meticulous work ethic and readiness to recognise genuine effort, while Acting Head of FID, Mr. Joshua Wakili, described her as a tough but instructive leader whose administrative expertise and pursuit of perfection created constant learning opportunities.

Mrs. Kemi Bamigbe lauded her high standards and no-nonsense approach, noting that her insistence on excellence, though demanding, strengthened the team. Mrs. Alice Bolarinwa highlighted her mentorship and compassionate nature toward committed staff, while Mr. Nonso Asiwa emphasised her openness to those willing to work and commended her passion for excellence. Mr. Deolu Okunoren described her as a motherly figure and mentor who fostered team cohesion and demonstrated unwavering integrity. Ms. Favour Ubani added praise for Barr. Agha-Ibe’s discernment, attention to detail, and genuine concern for subordinates.

In her vote of thanks, Barr. Grace Agha-Ibe expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming gesture, describing SSD as a family she would always consider herself part of. She revealed the emotional nature of the event had moved her to tears, acknowledging that behind her stern exterior lies a deeply emotional person shaped by the rigours of public service. Reflecting on her journey, she attributed her achievements to God’s grace, noting divine protection throughout her travels across Nigeria.

Addressing her colleagues, she urged them to remain focused on the Commission’s core mandate, assuring them that diligence and perseverance would always be recognised. She encouraged staff not to grumble or be discouraged during challenging periods, reminding them that God’s timing is perfect. Concluding her remarks, she expressed deep affection for her colleagues, urged them to stay in touch, and reaffirmed her commitment to contributing to national development even in retirement.

The event served as a fitting tribute to a career defined by professionalism, mentorship, and unwavering dedication, leaving an indelible mark on the ICPC and its staff.
