By Nkechi Eze

The Fiscal Responsibility Commission has commenced its 2025 Strategic Capacity Development Programme, reinforcing its commitment to institutional effectiveness, data-driven governance, and enhanced regulatory performance as part of efforts to strengthen fiscal discipline and economic management in Nigeria.

The two-day programme, designed to improve institutional systems and enhance data analysis for decision-making, brought together staff of the Commission for intensive training aimed at boosting transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency across departments. The initiative is also focused on equipping participants with modern analytical tools, performance management strategies, and practical methodologies to improve productivity and service delivery.

Declaring the programme open, the outgoing Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Victor Muruako, reaffirmed his commitment to professional development and organisational growth, stressing that building strong institutional systems and promoting evidence-based decision-making remain critical to the Commission’s mandate.

He explained that improving analytical competence among staff would significantly enhance regulatory oversight and deepen transparency in public financial management. He urged personnel to embrace innovation, teamwork, and collaboration, noting that the ultimate value of the training lies in applying acquired knowledge to achieve measurable improvements in the Commission’s operations.

Muruako also informed participants of assurances from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who he said expressed strong support for the Commission after observing its contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s economic stability. He expressed confidence that the Commission would continue to receive institutional backing to sustain its reforms and achievements.

As part of the programme, the outgoing Chairman formally presented Barrister Charles Chukwuemeka Abana, the Commission’s most senior Director and Director of Legal Investigation and Enforcement, as the officer to oversee the affairs of the Commission in an interim capacity, pending further directives from the Federal Government. The move, he said, was necessary to ensure continuity of leadership and operational stability.

The capacity development initiative, facilitated by Rangers Business Solution Ltd., is holding at Freshland Hotel in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and is expected to further entrench professionalism, innovation, and results-oriented performance within the Commission.

The programme underscores the Commission’s resolve to build a skilled and forward-looking workforce capable of delivering on its mandate with excellence, integrity, and accountability, while sustaining public confidence in Nigeria’s fiscal governance framework.
