The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated three Nigerians on their landmark victories at the 2026 Grammy Awards, describing their achievements as a powerful testament to Nigerian creativity and global influence.
In an official statement issued by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa praised Shaboozey (born Collins Obinna Chibueze), Tyler, the Creator (born Tyler Gregory Okonma), and Cynthia Erivo (born Cynthia Chinasaokwu Onyedinmanazu Amarachukwu Owezuke Echimino Erivo) for their historic wins on one of the world’s most prestigious cultural stages. She emphasized that the accolades represent not only personal triumphs but moments of collective pride for Nigeria.
“Shaboozey, Tyler Okonma, and Cynthia Erivo embody the extraordinary talent, excellence, and global reach of Nigerians and people of Nigerian heritage,” Dabiri-Erewa said. “Their achievements remind us that Nigerian culture continues to shape and inspire the world, transcending borders while celebrating our roots.”
The NiDCOM boss also acknowledged the contributions of Nigerian-based artists including Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid, highlighting their role in maintaining Nigeria’s visibility and cultural impact on the international music scene.
Dabiri-Erewa stressed that the names, family histories, and ancestral origins of Shaboozey, Tyler Okonma, and Cynthia Erivo are unmistakably Nigerian. “Through their work, they showcase the richness of our culture and heritage on the global stage,” she noted.
She urged the media, cultural institutions, and Nigerians at home and abroad to adopt a more inclusive perspective of national pride—one that celebrates the achievements of Nigerians wherever they may be. “Recognizing Nigerians in the diaspora strengthens national unity, enhances global respect for our country, and inspires the next generation of talent,” she said.
The NiDCOM statement concluded by reaffirming the commission’s commitment to supporting and promoting Nigerian excellence worldwide, ensuring that every achievement by Nigerians abroad is celebrated as a national milestone.
