The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed a response team to Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State to assess the impact of the recent bandit attack and coordinate humanitarian intervention for affected residents.

The Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, directed that the team from the Agency’s Minna Operations Office, which has operational coverage over Kwara State, should temporarily relocate to the affected areas to carry out a comprehensive on-the-ground assessment of damages, humanitarian needs and response priorities.

According to the Agency, the assessment is being conducted in close collaboration with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and relevant security agencies to ensure a coordinated, effective and well-informed response to the situation.

NEMA disclosed that relief materials, comprising both food and non-food items, have already been prepositioned and are on ground to provide immediate support and relief to victims of the attack while further needs are being evaluated.

Mrs Umar expressed deep sympathy to the affected communities and the Kwara State Government over the unfortunate incident, describing it as a painful development that has disrupted livelihoods and undermined the sense of safety of residents.

She assured that NEMA remains fully committed to supporting the state and the impacted communities through timely humanitarian assistance, recovery planning and continued coordination with all relevant stakeholders.

The Agency reiterated its mandate to provide rapid emergency response, strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure that victims of crises receive prompt and adequate assistance, stressing that no effort would be spared to alleviate the suffering of those affected in Woro, Nuku and neighbouring communities.

NEMA further called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies and emergency responders, while reaffirming its readiness to scale up intervention based on the outcome of the ongoing assessment.
