The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to improving housing welfare and access to mortgage opportunities for police personnel, as he received the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Mr Shehu Usman Osidi, and members of his management team on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit, according to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, provided an opportunity for both institutions to strengthen their long-standing partnership and explore practical ways of expanding housing benefits for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.

During the engagement, the Managing Director of FMBN expressed his deep appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the warm reception accorded his team, describing the Nigeria Police Force as one of the Bank’s most strategic institutional partners. He commended the Force for its consistent cooperation with the Bank and called for deeper collaboration to ensure that police personnel across the country are able to access housing benefits and mortgage facilities seamlessly, without administrative bottlenecks, delays, or disputes.

Mr Osidi emphasised that strengthening institutional coordination between the FMBN and the Nigeria Police Force would significantly enhance the delivery of affordable housing solutions to officers, thereby improving their quality of life and long-term financial security.

In his response, IGP Egbetokun welcomed the FMBN delegation and described the visit as both timely and significant, noting that it reflects a shared commitment to the welfare of police personnel. He stated that strong institutional partnerships such as that between the Police Force and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria are critical to achieving sustainable housing solutions for officers nationwide.

The Inspector-General reaffirmed that the welfare of personnel remains a top priority under his leadership, stressing that access to decent and affordable housing is a key component of a holistic welfare package for officers who daily risk their lives in the service of the nation.

He further noted that improved housing conditions directly contribute to higher morale, professionalism, and operational effectiveness within the Force, adding that the Police leadership will continue to support initiatives that positively impact the living standards of personnel.

The engagement underscored the Nigeria Police Force’s broader commitment to fostering strategic partnerships with relevant institutions to promote the dignity, well-being, and long-term welfare of its officers, both while in active service and in retirement.
