The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to deeper inter-agency collaboration as he received the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, and members of his management team on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit, according to an official statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, provided a strategic platform for both institutions to reaffirm their shared resolve to strengthen cooperation in the interest of national security, economic stability and sustained investor confidence in Nigeria’s financial system.

During the engagement, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission commended the Nigeria Police Force for its consistent efforts in maintaining law and order across the country, as well as its continued support to the Commission in the execution of its regulatory and enforcement mandates. He particularly acknowledged the professionalism, responsiveness and dedication of the Force in addressing issues related to capital market infractions and other financial crimes, noting that such support has been critical to the integrity of Nigeria’s capital market.

Dr. Agama expressed the Commission’s desire to further deepen its partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, with particular emphasis on enhanced collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre. He highlighted the Centre’s proven capacity and advanced operational capabilities in combating cyber-enabled financial crimes, stressing that closer synergy would significantly strengthen regulatory enforcement, intelligence sharing and capacity building in tackling emerging and sophisticated threats within the capital market ecosystem.

In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police warmly welcomed the SEC delegation and expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the Nigeria Police Force. He reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to inter-agency cooperation, describing collaboration among key institutions as indispensable to effective policing and national development in the modern era. The IGP assured the Commission of the Police Force’s continued support, both in ongoing engagements and future partnerships aimed at safeguarding Nigeria’s economic and financial interests.

The IGP further noted that contemporary security challenges, particularly those linked to financial crimes and cyber threats, require strong institutional linkages and seamless cooperation. He assured the delegation that the Nigeria Police Force, especially its specialised units such as the National Cybercrime Centre, would continue to work closely with the Securities and Exchange Commission to protect the integrity of the financial system and promote investor confidence.

The visit underscored the growing recognition of the need for coordinated efforts between security and regulatory institutions as Nigeria confronts increasingly complex financial and cyber-related crimes, while reinforcing the shared commitment of both the Police Force and the SEC to national stability and economic resilience.
