The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has extended the deadline for all beneficiaries under the Fast Track Scheme to migrate to the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme, shifting the earlier cut-off date of 31 December 2025 to 31 January 2026. The extension reflects the Service’s commitment to deepening trade facilitation, enhancing supply-chain security and strengthening compliance in line with global standards.
In an official signed statement, the National Public Relations Officer of the Service, Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, announced that all existing Fast Track beneficiaries who are yet to complete their migration are advised to initiate and conclude their AEO applications via the official platform: aeo.nigeriatradehub.gov.ng. He stated that the extended deadline provides operators with ample time to meet programme requirements and obtain AEO certification without disrupting their business operations.
Maiwada added that enquiries, technical support, or application guidance can be directed to the dedicated helpdesk at aeo@customs.gov.ng. He emphasised that only companies duly certified under the AEO Programme will continue to enjoy the facilitation privileges previously offered under the Fast Track Scheme.
The AEO Programme, a globally recognised compliance-based initiative, offers trusted operators several benefits including expedited cargo release, reduced documentation, lower inspection levels, pre-arrival processing, and greater predictability in cross-border trade. According to the Service, the full migration from the Fast Track Scheme to the AEO Programme aligns with the World Customs Organisation (WCO) SAFE Framework of Standards and is backed by Sections 108 to 111 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023. The extension, therefore, underscores the Service’s determination to provide a seamless and inclusive transition process for all stakeholders.
To reinforce ongoing sensitisation efforts, the NCS announced that it will convene another comprehensive Stakeholders Engagement Forum to offer practical guidance on the migration process. The forum, scheduled for Thursday, 18 December 2025, at the Lagos Continental Hotel from 0900hrs to 1600hrs, will feature demonstrations on AEO application procedures and address compliance-related concerns. Participants will also have the opportunity to interact directly with AEO implementation teams and receive detailed information regarding programme benefits and operational modalities.
The Service urged all Fast Track beneficiaries to take advantage of the extended window, participate actively in the upcoming engagement forum, and complete their transition to the AEO scheme. According to the NCS, proactive stakeholder involvement will not only ensure regulatory compliance but also enhance supply-chain effectiveness and long-term sustainability.
The Customs Service reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening trade efficiency, boosting Nigeria’s global competitiveness, protecting national revenue, and promoting a predictable, transparent and secure cargo-clearance environment that supports legitimate business.
