The leadership of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has charged its internal Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to intensify preventive measures and deepen accountability across the Commission’s operations.

In an official signed statement, the Commission’s Spokesperson, Okor Odey, disclosed that the call was made during a sensitisation workshop held at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.

The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, represented at the event by Director Olusegun Adigun, urged members of the ACTU to remain unwavering in promoting integrity, enforcing internal controls, and upholding the Commission’s values. Describing corruption as a major impediment to national development, Dr. Aliyu said the workshop served as a “call to action,” assuring participants of sustained institutional support to enhance the Unit’s effectiveness.

Reinforcing the Chairman’s charge, the Secretary to the Commission, Barr. Clifford Oparaodu, emphasised that ACTU plays a critical role in Nigeria’s anti-corruption architecture. He noted that the Unit strengthens accountability through rigorous fact-finding and ensures transparency within internal processes, including promotion exercises.

The Chairman of ACTU, Barr. Michael Adesola, outlined the Unit’s recent achievements, including its independent management of the 2025 promotion examination. He cautioned staff against actions capable of undermining the Commission’s integrity and formally appealed for the elevation of ACTU from an ad-hoc structure to a full-fledged Unit to enhance its operational efficiency.

Other speakers at the workshop included the Head of Reforms, Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, who lent further support to the renewed drive for strengthened internal accountability.

The event concluded with a unified commitment to collaborative action, underscoring the shared responsibility of management and staff in building a corruption-resistant public service and reinforcing institutional integrity at every level.
