NEMA Distributes Relief Items to Persons Living With Disabilities in Abuja

Following a fire incident that ravaged a community in the outskirt of Abuja City Centre with many persons living with disabilities, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), today distributed relief items to the affected persons in providing them with  succour. 

Director General NEMA Mrs Zubaida Umar flagged-off the relief distribution in Abuja affirmed commitment of the Agency to prioritize the protection of right and welfare of vulnerable persons and those living with disabilities during emergency situations and response to disasters. 


She said the relief were provided by NEMA following request by the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities (NCPWD)  for the Agency to support them after the fire incident at Karmojiji that destroyed their homes, degraded their livelihoods and had subjected them to more hardship. 

She also extended the sympathy of the Agency to those affected by the fire and appreciated the collaboration of stakeholders towards providing them with the much desired succour.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD Dr David Lalu appreciated NEMA for coming to the aid of the fire incident with the distribution of the relief items. 

The items distributed were bags of rice, foam mattresses, wax prints, brocades, children, women and men’s wears. Others were blankets, plastic buckets, plates cups and spoons. 

Responding, some of the beneficiaries that spoke appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, NEMA, NCPWD and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agencies for responding to their situation in providing them with relief items. They however, requested for more supports  to enable them become self reliant.
