The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, has been honoured with the Excellence in Public Service Award at the 2025 edition of the BusinessDay Public Lecture Series and Excellence Awards. The event, held on 3rd December 2025, marked the seventh edition of the annual recognition platform dedicated to celebrating outstanding public sector leaders who are redefining governance and institutional performance across the country.
Prof. Anosike’s selection for the prestigious award reflects his remarkable leadership in transforming NiMet into a forward-thinking institution anchored on efficiency, climate resilience, and evidence-based decision-making. Under his stewardship, the Agency has strengthened the accuracy, accessibility, and impact of meteorological services, while expanding its contributions to national development through enhanced climate advisory support for agriculture, aviation, maritime, disaster risk reduction, and other critical sectors.
According to the Awards Committee, Prof. Anosike was recognised for his “exceptional commitment, strategic vision, and transformative contributions to Nigeria’s meteorological and climate services sector.” His prominence in the Excellence in Public Service category underscores a record of consistent innovation, strengthened institutional processes, and unwavering pursuit of service quality.
The Committee further noted that his reforms continue to position NiMet as a model of modern public service delivery, one that leverages data, technology, and strategic partnerships to address emerging climate challenges and support national resilience.
This year’s ceremony also celebrated other distinguished public officials, including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, among several eminent leaders whose contributions continue to shape Nigeria’s governance landscape.
Prof. Anosike’s recognition adds to the growing list of accolades earned by NiMet in recent years, reaffirming the Agency’s rising profile as a key driver of climate intelligence, institutional innovation, and high-impact public service reforms.
