The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged Corps Members to embrace prudent spending habits and cultivate strong financial management skills as they begin their national service year.

During his visit to the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Corps Members at the Orientation Camp in Okada, Edo State, General Nafiu advised the young graduates to avoid flamboyant lifestyles and learn to live within their means. According to an official statement by the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the DG emphasised that responsible financial behaviour would help Corps Members navigate the challenges of the service year and life beyond it.

General Nafiu also reiterated the NYSC Management’s unwavering commitment to the security and general welfare of all Corps Members. He, however, reminded them of their personal responsibility to remain vigilant, stay security-conscious, and avoid activities that could put them at risk.

He further encouraged the Corps Members to play an active role in promoting national unity by building friendships across cultural lines while upholding the core values of the Scheme.

“Let me remind you once again to make friends across the different cultural divides in this Camp and out there in your various service locations. At all times, you should demonstrate the virtues of loyalty, commitment, discipline and hard work,” the DG told the Corps Members.

Earlier, the NYSC Edo State Coordinator, Mrs Ben-Ushie Frances, welcomed the DG and informed him that a total of 1,634 Corps Members had been registered for the new batch. She described the group as resourceful and diligent, noting that they had shown commendable enthusiasm by actively participating in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) sessions and other camp activities.

Mrs Ben-Ushie added that the orientation programme was progressing smoothly due to the strong synergy among camp officials, all working collaboratively to achieve the shared vision of a successful exercise.
