The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing road safety through strengthened collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in a renewed drive to ensure prompt response to emergencies and reduction of road traffic accidents within the FCT.
In an official statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, FEMD, Nkechi Isa, the Acting Director-General of the Department, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, made the pledge when he received the Unit Commander of the FRSC Central Business District Command, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Zayanu Ibrahim, and his team at the FEMD headquarters in Abuja.
Engr. Abdulrahman noted that as emergency response agencies, both FEMD and FRSC share a common responsibility to save lives and must therefore work in synergy rather than in isolation. “As responders, we must collaborate; there should be no rivalry. You can demand capacity from us because we have access to our statutory stakeholders. We must also leverage the emergency ambulance service established by the Federal Government,” he stated.
He further described the FRSC as a vital partner in progress, emphasizing the need for mutual support and operational cooperation between the two agencies. The FEMD boss also directed the Department’s Search and Rescue Team to consolidate and deepen existing relationships with the FRSC to ensure seamless coordination during emergency interventions.
Earlier, the FRSC Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Zayanu Ibrahim, highlighted the importance of FEMD’s role in road safety management, noting that both agencies perform complementary duties. “We carry out the same duties, but we enforce while you respond. I see both agencies as one because our shared goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of our people,” he said.
Ibrahim, who was recently redeployed to the Central Business District following his promotion, expressed optimism that the collaboration between FEMD and FRSC would continue to grow stronger, leading to a more effective and unified approach to saving lives and preventing road mishaps in the Federal Capital Territory.
