The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has expressed profound grief over the death of Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old reporter and news anchor with Arise News, who until her passing was assigned to cover the Ministry of Women Affairs.
In a statement issued by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan Eze, the Minister described the death of the young journalist as a painful and devastating loss not only to her family and colleagues but also to the entire media industry and all who had the privilege of encountering her.
Hajiya Imaan recalled that Somtochukwu’s professionalism, dedication, and vibrant personality distinguished her as a promising journalist with a bright future. She lamented that her career and life were cruelly cut short in a manner she described as unacceptable.
The Minister extended her condolences to the management and staff of Arise News, urging them to draw strength from the knowledge that Somtochukwu’s passion for truth, justice, and national development will remain a lasting legacy.
While condemning the circumstances surrounding her tragic death, Hajiya Imaan called on security agencies to intensify efforts in tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring they face the full weight of the law. “Such a bright candle has been blown out in her prime. Nigeria has lost a young woman of talent, courage, and promise,” she said.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Women Affairs, I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, colleagues, and the entire Arise News family. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the Minister added.
