Corps Members have been encouraged to display diligence and commitment in their various Places of Primary Assignment as they move into the next phase of their national service, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu has said.
In an official statement issued by the Acting Director, Information and Public Relations of the NYSC, Caroline Embu, the NYSC boss reminded the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream One Corps Members that their diligence, selfless service, perseverance and loyalty should define their activities and overall conduct as ambassadors of the Scheme throughout the service year.
Addressing the Corps Members at the NYSC Kebbi State Orientation Camp in Dakingari, the Director General emphasized that the Scheme remains a major platform for entrenching national unity, promoting cultural heritage, and strengthening the bond among the diverse peoples of the country. He equally charged them to sustain the friendships developed during the Orientation Course and be deliberate in building new ties as the service year progresses.
“You must learn to appreciate and respect the cultures of others and strive to build bridges of friendship wherever you find yourselves. The Orientation Camp gives you a rare opportunity to make new friends and I urge you not to burn those bridges but to maintain them throughout your service year and beyond,” he stated.
General Nafiu further urged the Corps Members to deploy the knowledge and skills they have acquired through the Scheme’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, pointing out that skill acquisition remains a fundamental tool for addressing youth unemployment and reducing poverty across the country.
He stressed that beyond fostering national unity, the NYSC also aims at exposing Nigerian youths to entrepreneurship, building sustainable business ideas and elevating cultural integration across the various geopolitical zones.
While advising them to always be security conscious and avoid risky engagements that could endanger their lives, the Director General reminded the Corps Members that they remain the future leaders of the country and should therefore conduct themselves responsibly in their respective host communities.
Earlier in his remarks, the Kebbi State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mr. Bala Dabo, commended the 904 Corps Members comprising 521 males and 383 females for their exemplary conduct since the commencement of the Orientation Exercise. He noted that their discipline, commitment and perseverance had been impressive and in line with the guiding rules and regulations of the Camp.
According to him, the Corps Members have so far displayed high standards of behaviour, adding that their attitude was a clear indication of their readiness to contribute positively to national development throughout their service year.
