Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have recorded another major success in the fight against terrorism, neutralising dozens of insurgents during a coordinated air and ground assault at Makakkari general area of Gando Forest in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State on August 10, 2025.

According to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer of OPFY, Captain David Adewusi, the operation was launched following credible intelligence which revealed the massing of terrorists loyal to the late Halilu Buzu and Alhaji Beti in the forest. The terrorists were reportedly preparing to launch a reprisal attack on the farming communities of Adabka and Nasarawan Burkullu in Bukkuyum LGA, in retaliation for recent defeats suffered in clashes with security forces and hybrid units.

Air assets carried out precision bombardments on the terrorists’ stronghold, inflicting heavy casualties. In a swift follow-up, troops of OPFY under Sector 2 intercepted and eliminated several fleeing fighters attempting to escape the scene of the aerial strike.

Captain Adewusi noted that the successful operation underscored the synergy between air and ground components in dismantling terrorist networks. He assured that troops remain committed to denying armed non-state actors any safe haven in the North West and parts of the North Central region.

“Terrorists and other criminal elements will find no hiding place. Our troops will continue to pursue them wherever they gather or move,” he stated, while urging residents to support security forces by promptly reporting suspicious activities. He emphasised that timely intelligence remains critical in protecting communities and bringing an end to the menace of terrorism and banditry.
