NEMA Unveils Code of Ethics and Anti-Corruption IEC

In a bid to strengthen accountability and transparency, the Director General National Emergency Management Agency, Mustapha Habib Ahmed has unveiled the Agency’s Code of Ethics in line with the anti-corruption crusade of the Federal Government.

He unveiled the Codes in Abuja today along with Information Education Communication (IEC) materials to enlighten and increase knowledge about accountability, transparency and the fight against corruption.

The NEMA DG said the management under his leadership in 2022 had reconstituted and inaugurated the Agency’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) and trained members of the unit to drive the process of entrenching accountability in the Agency. Furthermore, he said the agency has also conducted sensitization programmes on corruption prevention strategies for NEMA staff in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

He said “deliberate actions taken by the management to enable NEMA ACTU garner support for ICPC in the fight against corruption, assist in building transparent and accountable NEMA, ensure adherence to basic ethical standards in building strong and effective Agency devoid of corruptive tendencies.”

On the code of ethics and IEC materials, he said they were meant to serve as guides in the working principles and ethical conduct of staff in the discharge of their duties.

In his remark, the chairman of ICPC Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu who was represented by Deputy Director System Study and Review Mr Obaniyi Clement commended NEMA for being proactive and committed to the anti-corruption crusade of the Federal Government.

NEMA ACTU Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Usur who is also the Ag Director Relief and Rehabilitation, appreciated the support of the management and ICPC for providing necessary guides towards the discharge of responsibilities given to the unit.

The NEMA ACTU comprises staff representation from across all departments.
