The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged Corps Members to make the core values of the Scheme their compass throughout their service year and into their future endeavours.

This call was made during his official visits to the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream Two Corps Members currently undergoing orientation at the Cross River State Orientation Camp in Obubra and the Ebonyi State Orientation Camp at MacGregor College, Afikpo.

In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC boss listed patriotism, integrity, efficiency, transparency, consistency, loyalty, discipline, diligence, and selfless service as key principles that every Corps Member must embody to ensure a successful and impactful service year.

General Nafiu charged the Corps Members to be law-abiding and to adhere strictly to the provisions of the Scheme’s bye-laws, the Nigerian constitution, and to show respect for constituted authorities at all levels. He emphasized the importance of personal conduct and commitment to assigned duties, stating, “Be at your best at all times. Be diligent and punctual at work, don’t be lazy and serve as our good ambassadors.”

During the visit, the NYSC Cross River State Coordinator, Mrs. Joke Oyenuga, presented a camp situation report in which she informed the Director General that 1,455 Corps Members comprising 675 males and 780 females had taken the Oath of Allegiance. The oath was administered by Hon. Justice E.A. Ubua of the Obubra High Court during the swearing-in ceremony. Mrs. Oyenuga noted that morale was high among both staff and Corps Members, all of whom were determined to make the most of the orientation programme.

In Ebonyi State, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Foluke Oladehinde, reported that 1,525 Corps Members had been registered comprising 765 males and 760 females. The Oath of Allegiance in the camp was administered by Hon. Justice Nicholas Nwode on behalf of the Chief Judge of the state.

General Nafiu’s visit to the camps served to boost morale and reinforce the ideals of discipline, national unity, and service to the fatherland that lie at the heart of the NYSC mandate. His message resonated strongly with the Corps Members, many of whom expressed renewed determination to serve with excellence and integrity in their various places of primary assignment.
