One person has been confirmed dead and two others injured in a tragic motor accident that occurred on Monday evening, May 26, on the Nyanya Bridge in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to an official signed statement by the spokesperson of the agency, Nkechi Isa,  the incident happened around 6:30pm when a truck conveying Coca-Cola beverages reportedly suffered brake failure. The truck subsequently collided with several vehicles before crashing into another truck belonging to a construction company.

The accident involved four members of the same family who were reportedly standing by the roadside at the time of the incident. While two of the victims sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja, one young male lost his life. The deceased’s body has since been released to his family by the FCT Police Command and FEMD’s Search and Rescue Team.

The drivers of both trucks, as well as a female customs officer whose vehicle was also damaged in the crash, escaped unhurt.

Emergency responders from the FCT Emergency Management Department, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the FCT Police Command were on the scene to carry out the rescue operation and ensure safety.

In his remarks, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed called on motorists to exercise greater caution while on the roads. He emphasized the importance of maintaining vehicles in good working condition to prevent such tragic incidents.

He also reminded residents to utilize the emergency toll-free number 112 in the event of accidents or other emergencies requiring immediate attention.
