The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that a police helicopter was used to deliver food to bandits in Kogi State, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
The clarification follows the emergence of a viral video showing a police aircraft landing and taking off in a location where armed individuals were visible. The footage prompted public speculation and unfounded accusations regarding the purpose of the operation.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the video was misrepresented. He explained that the operation, which took place on Saturday, 10th May 2025, involved a coordinated mission by joint security forces including local vigilantes and hunters at the Obajana axis of Kogi State.
“The video captures a legitimate security operation,” ACP Adejobi stated. “The police helicopter was deployed as part of the mission to provide aerial support and surveillance to ground forces involved in the tactical operation.”
He emphasized that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities within the state and surrounding areas.
ACP Adejobi urged the public to disregard the unfounded claims associated with the video and to rely solely on official police communication channels for verified information regarding law enforcement activities.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians and will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to enhance public safety and national security,” he added.
The police also reiterated their call for responsible dissemination of information, cautioning against the spread of unverified narratives that could undermine public trust and endanger ongoing security efforts.
