In a bid to bolster climate resilience in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and India-based development consultancy, IPE Global Limited, are exploring collaborative opportunities to improve the delivery of agro-meteorological information to key stakeholders across the agricultural value chain.
On Thursday, 8th May 2025, a delegation from IPE Global, led by Mr. Raghmesh Ranjan, visited NiMet’s headquarters to discuss potential areas of collaboration focused on agricultural climate advisory services.
Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, underscored the agency’s long-standing role—spanning over 130 years—in supporting agricultural productivity in Nigeria. He stressed the importance of embedding weather data into economic and development planning, particularly in light of increasing climate variability.
“Leveraging digital platforms to deliver accurate and timely weather forecasts and advisories to farmers, and expanding access to early warning systems, is key to improving decision-making and strengthening resilience to climate change. We are eager to collaborate with IPE Global to achieve this,” Anosike stated.
In response, Mr. Ranjan highlighted the strategic value of working with NiMet as Nigeria’s national meteorological authority, noting that such a partnership would be instrumental in enhancing climate services geared towards agricultural productivity and food security.
