Following the weather forecast by the Nigeria Meteorological Agency,(NiMET), alerting citizens of active thunderstorms currently observed in parts of Benue, Enugu Plateau and Nasarawa States.
The FEMD has urged residents to avoid driving under heavy rains, electrical appliances should be disconnected and residents should stay away from tall trees to avoid the impact of falling branches.
It would be recalled that NiMET had earlier issued a weather alert, about storms that may propagate to affect the FCT and States contiguous to the Territory within 1-6 hours which is valid till the 3rd of May, 2025.
It also disclosed that other states that may be affected are Edo, Imo, Enugu, Abia and Anambra.
According to the forecast strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.
Nkechi Isa, head public affairs FEMD in an official signed statement disclosed that the Ag. Director General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed has placed the search and Rescue Team of the Agency on alert.
According to Nkechi Isa, Engr. Abdulrahman assures residents of the commitment of FEMD to the protection of life and property and has appealed to residents to always use the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of an emergency.
