The Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri has clarified that the reported explosion at one of its ammunition storage facilities in Giwa Barracks, was caused by the current high temperatures in the area, which led to the explosion of some munitions.

Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Reuben Kovangiya in an official signed statement disclosed that the situation has been brought under control thanks to the prompt response of the Borno State Fire Service Department and security agencies’ fire trucks.

He further disclosed that to ensure public safety, troops of Operation HADIN KAI have been deployed to protect the public and prevent miscreants from taking advantage of the situation.

The public is assured that the explosion was not an attack and is urged to remain calm, discountenancing any speculation about an attack within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.
