Nigeria, UK Strengthen Partnership to Combat Transnational Crime

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to collaborating with other agencies and countries to fight transnational crime, following a visit from UK Home Office Minister, Lord David George Hanson, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on April 29, 2025.

ACM Olumuyiwa Adejobi the force public relations officer, FPRO in an official signed statement disclosed that during the meeting, Lord Hanson emphasized the significant threat posed by transnational crime, particularly fraud, acknowledging it as a major area of concern for both the UK and Nigeria. 

He expressed his pride in the existing collaborative efforts between the UK Government and the NPF in tackling cybercriminals and voiced his anticipation for strengthened cooperation in the future. He further stated that the UK Government is committed to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in its efforts to combat crime, especially cybercrime, and looks forward to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will further solidify the partnership and provide a framework for enhanced collaboration. 

The IGP welcomed Lord Hanson’s remarks and emphasized the importance of the visit which underscores the strong partnership between the Nigerian and the UK governments, and the shared commitment to tackling transnational crime.

The IGP further appreciated the support and partnership being extended to law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, particularly the Nigeria Police Force. Looking ahead, the IGP expressed his hope to establish a fellowship exchange program with the National Crime Agency (NCA) to foster a deeper, long-term relationship and strengthened collaboration.

The IGP reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to strengthening partnerships to tackle crime, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in bringing crime to a minimum.
