Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) following the recent attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Wulgo, a border town with Republic of Cameroon.

During a sympathy visit on Thursday to Cameroonian troops under Sector 1 of the MNJTF, Governor Zulum also conveyed his sympathies to the government and people of the Cameroon over the tragic incident.

The Governor was received in Wulgo—approximately 15 kilometres from Gamboru Ngala—by the Force Commander of the MNJTF, Major General Godwin Michael Mutkut.

“I am here to commiserate with you, and with the government and people of the Republic of Cameroon, over the recent unfortunate incident. I wish to salute your bravery and unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the region,” Governor Zulum stated.

Governor Zulum reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government of Nigeria to supporting the MNJTF and the Cameroonian authorities in their efforts to end the menace of terrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad region.

“The Government of Nigeria will explore all possible avenues to complement the efforts of the Multinational Joint Task Force and the government of Cameroon to bring lasting stability to the Lake Chad basin,” he assured.

In addition to federal support, the Governor pledged further assistance from the Borno State Government to the troops operating within the theatre of war.

Governor Zulum was accompanied on the visit the Senator representing Borno Central, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan; Special Advisers Hon. Idrissa Jidda and Hon. Mustapha Dalatu; Chairman of the Borno State Social Investment Programme, Hon. Yuguda Saleh Vungas; Chairman of Ngala Local Government Area; and the Governor’s Principal Private Secretary.
