It was author and educator Joanne Ciulla that said, “Leadership is not a person or a position. It is a complex moral relationship between people based on trust, obligation, commitment, emotion, and a shared vision of the good.”
This is the position of our Candidate hence our campaign for Chizoba Maryanne Ogbeche is not just because she has the requisite experience, pedigree, and capacity to be the Vice President of our Zone.
It is rather because of the trust she engenders, her obligation and commitment to NAWOJ and women empowerment is unalloyed as well as the fact that she shares a common vision for an association that works for all responsibly and responsively.
Comrade Ogbeche has come far and well in her union journey right from the Leadership Newspapers where she was the Secretary of the NUJ Chapel. She later will serve as Financial Secretary and Secretary, respectively, of NAWOJ FCT Chapter, where she worked well with the leadership of the Association and is reputed that her candid views, initiatives, and suggestions brought much verve and impetus to NAWOJ.
Over the years, she has remained a strong and vibrant voice in the NUJ and NAWOJ, leading to her serving in various committees and panels.
Her hard work and commitment earned her the NUJ Press Freedom Awards amongst other honours from associations outside the NUJ and NAWOJ.
For NAWOJ Zone D that works, Comrade Ogbeche brings contacts, capacity, demonstrable track record of performance, synergy, and passion that female journalists can and should do well.
Her agenda is centred on capacity building using in-house resources, sourcing for fellowship opportunities, building consensus on professional training and programmes, as well as being a voice for women and children’s rights.
For us in her Campaign Organisation, we remain focused on a campaign devoid of mudslinging, devious schemings, and finger-pointing.
However, we are not unmindful of attempts by those who are fazed by our candidate’s impeachable ascendency through ethnic profiling, as unfortunate as it is.
The NAWOJ is not a regional or ethnic association. Our candidate began her journalism career in Abuja and has continued to practice in the North Central, therefore, eminently qualified to vie for any office in the Zone and the Association.
To all those who have given us their support, we urge you to keep the faith and walk with us to victory on November 25, 2023.
God bless you all!!!
