The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a heat stress warning to residents of 19 states, including the southeast and coastal areas, due to impending heat stress. The affected states include Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Cross River, and FCT, with other vulnerable regions being the southwest, coastal areas, Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Sokoto.

NiMet warns that rising temperatures and high humidity levels over the next three to four days may cause thermal discomfort, leading to potential health risks such as fatigue, irritability, reduced focus, and lower productivity.

To stay safe, NiMet advises residents to;

Stay Cool, use fans, air conditioning, or shaded spaces to keep cool.

Dress Light, wear breathable clothing to minimize heat absorption.

Stay Hydrated, Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Avoid Peak Sun Hours by staying indoors between 12pm-3pm to avoid extreme heat.

Use Sun Protection by wearing hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen when outdoors.

By taking these precautions, residents can minimize their risk of heat-related illnesses and stay safe during this period.
