As a demonstration of its cooperate social responsibility and a gesture of goodwill and solidarity, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), on Friday 7 March 2025, distributed food items to Police Muslim faithfuls at the Force Headquarters Mosque Abuja, in appreciation of their sacrifices to the nation.

The Minister of Police Affairs Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, commended the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) for their outstanding Ramadan relief efforts to support police personnel. In an interview with journalists, the Minister expressed his appreciation, saying

“I am deeply impressed by the PCRC’s initiative to provide Ramadan packages to our police personnel. This gesture demonstrates the organization’s commitment to supporting those who serve and protect our communities.

The PCRC’s efforts have not only brought relief to our police officers but have also fostered a sense of community and solidarity.”

Speaking to journalists after the Jummat prayers, the National Chairman of PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyan, said the organization has made it a tradition to provide support for the Nigerian police.

According to Olaniyan, the current members of PCRC executive have put plans in place to celebrate Christians and Muslim faithfuls in the Nigerian police once in a year.

According to him, the committee chose Christmas period for the Christians and Ramadan period for Muslims, adding that today’s distribution marks the final phase of the distribution of items.

“This is Ramadan period and the police community relation committee, PCRC, Nigeria and diaspora, especially since this administration came into office, we identify two important time in the life of our leading religious body in this country.

We identify Christmas period for the Christians, we understand they have so many festivals, but we pick Christmas, to celebrate and rejoice with them, share from the little token we can contribute, we also pick Ramadan period for Muslims.

“This programme is to celebrate Muslim faithfuls in the Nigeria police as a token of appreciation of what they are doing.

“Majority of us Muslims that are fasting take our leave during this Ramadan period, but the police personnel are busy running after criminals even in fasting.” He said.

He explained that the PCRC leadership decided to provide support to 2,000 serving police officers.

“This year, we choose to support 2000 serving police officers. And we kick start this year’s distribution from Jigawa, Kano, Katsina and Kaduna.

“We also went to FCT command, Zone 7 command, friends of the police like the ministry of Police Affairs and Police Service Commission.

“We will also extend the gifts to all the service chiefs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

“We are showing love and we want to use this to encourage them that we are with them,” he said.

Alhaji Mogaji further lauded efforts of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun for his steadfast commitment in seeking for improvement on the welfare of police personnel across the country.

He further urged that the holy month should be used to expose all criminal elements living in our midst.

“Let’s use this period to expose criminal elements among us, because they are not living in secret, they live with us, they go to the same market with us, they are in our community.” He said.
