By Nkechi Eze
As part of working to enhance its capabilities and professionalism, particularly in areas such as police reforms, human rights, and gender equality, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the GS Foundation, has implemented an Advanced Facilitators Training Program aimed at enhancing the instructional and leadership capabilities of police officers.
The training, which was held at the National Institute of Police Studies (NIPS), Abuja, ran in two sessions from February 10th to 15th and from February 17th to 22nd, 2025.
ACP Okumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, was represented at the opening session by Commissioner of Police, Department of Training and Development, CP Rashad B. Afegbua, psc, mnips.

He further noted that participants for the training were carefully selected based on their outstanding performance in the Basic Facilitators Program. This advanced program aims to further equip them with high-level facilitation skills, enabling them to serve as facilitators to other officers, thereby ensuring a sustainable capacity-building framework within the Force.
The collaboration between the NPF, UNDP, and GS-Foundation has also led to the establishment of a Police Reform Secretariat, which will drive and coordinate the reform process. Furthermore, efforts have been made to enhance civilian oversight of the NPF, including the development of a database for the Police Reform Commission.
The Advanced Facilitators Training Programme is a natural progression of these efforts, aiming to equip police officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to facilitate effective training and reform within the NPF.
The NPF appreciates the UNDP and GS Foundation for their invaluable support in sponsoring this program, further strengthening the Force’s commitment to professionalism, excellence, and improved service delivery. The Force remains committed to personnel development and capacity building, recognizing its role in driving effective reforms in Nigeria’s policing system.
