…reaffirms commitment to safeguarding lives and property

The Nigeria Police Force has once again demonstrated its commitment to enhancing National safety and security through proactive measures with the successful crackdown on criminal networks, rescues of kidnapped victims and recovery of firearms.

Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a press briefing at the FID-IRT headquarters on the 22nd of January, 2025 noted that the police carried out a well-coordinated operation which lead to the arrest of Muhammed Kabir, 36, and his accomplices, Donald Okpere and Haruna Ibrahim, members of a notorious impersonation gang, for their involvement in a large-scale impersonation and fraud scheme.

According to Olumuyiwa, “The gang’s scheme involved impersonating military officers to dupe victims, who were subsequently defrauded of millions of naira. The scammers would buy electronics and medical supplies, then send fake payment confirmations to their victims, resulting in substantial financial losses.”

The successful arrest marks a major achievement for the Nigeria Police Force, demonstrating their commitment to tackling fraud and ensuring public safety.
Demonstrating its commitment to enhancing public safety, recent statistics reveal a substantial increase in arrests and recoveries.
Notably, the NPF have recorded the arrest of 179 armed robbery suspects, 100 kidnapping suspects, and 152 murder/homicide suspects.
Additionally, 34 suspects connected to unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, 77 rape suspects, and 110 suspected cultists were also apprehended.

In terms of recoveries, the Police successfully retrieved various firearms, ammunitions of various calibers, and 56 stolen vehicles. Furthermore, they rescued 22 victims of kidnapping across the country, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring public safety and security.

In a separate incident, four suspects Sunday Okwo Ade, Monday Solomon, David Emmanuel, and Shakiru Badmus, linked to a notorious gang responsible for stealing motorcycles from farmers in Lagos and Ogun States have also been apprehended. The successful operation resulted in the recovery of 15 stolen motorcycles.

These decisive action reiterates the Force dedication to maintaining internal stability, significantly reducing crime rates nationwide and is part of the Force broader strategy to ensure the safety and well-being of all Nigerians, aligning with the National Security Strategy’s goals.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and properties of all citizens, ensuring a peaceful environment for daily activities.

IGP Egbetokun further reiterated that the Force remains resolute in pursuing criminal elements and upholding justice, as dictated by the laws of the land.
