The Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello, has pledged to strengthen ties with the Kaduna-based Global Initiative for Women and Children (GIWAC) to combat human trafficking in Nigeria. This move aligns with her efforts to boost partnerships across the country.

She stated this while welcoming a delegation from the Global Initiative for Women and Children (GIWAC) today at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja. The team, led by Hafsat Mohammed Baba, paid a courtesy visit to discuss potential collaboration.

The Director General while commending the Organization for its sustained support and collaboration with NAPTIP through its Kaduna State Command, promised that the Agency shall continue to strengthen its relationship with the NGO in a bid to curtail all incidences of human trafficking in Kaduna and its environs.

Hajiya Hafsat Mohammed Baba, Team Lead of GIWAC, outlined key areas for collaboration with NAPTIP to combat human trafficking. She sought assistance in:

Establishing a Shelter: Building a safe haven for victims of human trafficking in Kaduna, providing them with essential care and support, Grassroots Response: Creating Local Government Area Focal Persons in 23 LGAs in Kaduna to enhance community-level response and awareness, Survivor Database: Developing a database to track and support survivors of human trafficking, Referral System: Establishing a system to connect victims with relevant services and organizations and Economic Empowerment which includes Supporting initiatives that promote economic independence and stability among survivors.

According to Hajiya Hafsat, these initiatives aim to provide comprehensive support to victims of human trafficking, from immediate shelter and care to long-term economic empowerment.
