Manchester City needed penalties to defeat Manchester United in the 2024 Community Shield on Saturday.The game had ended 1-1 after regulation time after two second-half goals.

Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring with a sublime solo goal, before Bernardo Silva levelled in the dying minutes.Jadon Sancho and Johnny Evans missed their kicks as City won 7-6 during the shoot-out.

United will now prepare for next Friday’s Premier League opener against Fulham at Old Trafford.Pep Guardiola’s men begin their title defence at Chelsea on Sunday.
