The Federal Government has called on religious organisations and other stakeholders to promote peaceful coexistence, national unity and mutual respect as essential ingredients for sustainable national development.
The government also stressed the need for Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation, to exercise their civic responsibilities peacefully and in accordance with the Constitution and applicable electoral laws.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, made the call while receiving a delegation of Yahudim Shabbat Observers in Nigeria and the Yahudim Governing Body in Nigeria and Africa, led by His Majesty, Cohen Gadol Yahudim, Levi Nabbi Mosheh, in Abuja.
According to an official statement signed by the Head of the Information and Public Relations Department, Christopher Ugwuegbulam, the SGF was represented at the meeting by the Director, SGF Main Office, Dr Francis Ikeynge Tyokase, who received the delegation on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Tyokase commended the organisation for its stated commitment to peace, prayers, moral values, unity and constructive engagement, noting that national development requires the collective contributions of government, religious institutions, the private sector, civil society organisations and well-meaning Nigerians.
He acknowledged the significance of the anniversary milestone being celebrated by the organisation and congratulated its leadership and members for their years of service in Nigeria.
The SGF’s representative further recognised the contributions of religious and community-based organisations to promoting mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and national cohesion, stressing that engagements with such groups provide opportunities for dialogue and collective action towards building a united and prosperous country.
Earlier, the leader of the Yahudim Governing Body in Nigeria and Africa, His Majesty Levi Nabbi Mosheh, informed the SGF’s representative that the organisation was preparing for an international anniversary celebration and the proposed launch of an African Yahudim Headquarters Building in Nigeria.
He explained that Yahudim Shabbat Observers is a religious organisation comprising various denominations, associations, councils, groups and committees whose members observe the Sabbath, identified as Saturday.
The delegation said the organisation had maintained a presence in Nigeria for several decades and remained committed to prayers, peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement in support of national development.
It also expressed readiness to mobilise millions of Yahudim voters in Nigeria to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in January 2027.
