The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned 49 welfare and infrastructure projects across Nigerian Army formations and units nationwide, including 11 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to address accommodation challenges, improve personnel welfare and enhance operational efficiency.
The projects include a newly constructed Officers Transit Accommodation at Life Camp, Abuja, which is designed to provide temporary housing for officers posted to Army Headquarters and other formations in the FCT while awaiting permanent accommodation.
According to an official statement signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, the projects were commissioned on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as part of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to providing conducive living and working environments for officers, soldiers and their families.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shaibu said the projects aligned with his Command Philosophy, particularly the pillars of Sound Administration and the Soldier First Concept, which place personnel welfare at the centre of building a professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force.
He stressed that adequate accommodation and essential infrastructure were critical to strengthening troop morale, boosting productivity and enhancing the Army’s capacity to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
The COAS charged officers who would occupy the newly commissioned transit accommodation to maintain the facility and uphold the highest standards of discipline and responsibility.
He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining investments in welfare and infrastructure across Army formations and units nationwide, while expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support for the Nigerian Army.
Earlier, the Chief of Logistics (Army), Major General Adekunle Adeyinka, explained that the Officers Transit Accommodation was designed to address temporary housing challenges faced by officers posted to Army Headquarters and other formations in Abuja.
Adeyinka said the facility comprised well-furnished, self-contained apartments equipped with modern amenities to provide comfortable accommodation for officers awaiting permanent allocation, thereby improving their welfare and administrative efficiency.
As part of his visit, Shaibu inspected ongoing infrastructure projects at Life Camp, including additional accommodation blocks, road rehabilitation and drainage works.
The Army Chief expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, directing contractors to adhere strictly to approved timelines and specifications to ensure timely completion.
The commissioning of the 11 projects in Abuja, alongside 38 others across Nigerian Army formations and units nationwide, forms part of efforts to address longstanding accommodation and infrastructure needs while improving the welfare of personnel and their families.
The Nigerian Army said the initiative also reinforces its commitment to creating an enabling environment for effective training, administration and military operations in support of national security.
