The Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid, citing the administration’s infrastructure development drive and economic reforms as measures aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable growth.
Umahi made the call on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, during a town hall meeting at the Coronation Hall in Kano State, ahead of the commissioning of major road infrastructure projects scheduled for Wednesday, October 21.
According to an official statement signed by Mohammed A. Ahmed, Director of Information and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Works, the minister said continuity in leadership would enable the administration to consolidate progress made in infrastructure delivery and economic reforms.
He described the removal of petroleum subsidy and other economic policy decisions as difficult but necessary steps towards achieving long-term economic stability and prosperity.
“The worst is over. The darkest part of the morning is the dawn. We are moving into prosperity as a result of the hard decisions occasioned by the reforms,” Umahi said.
The minister maintained that the impact of the reforms was increasingly reflected in development initiatives and infrastructure projects being executed across the country.
He urged Nigerians to remain patient and support the administration’s policies, arguing that sustained commitment to the reform programme would help strengthen the economy and advance national development.
Umahi also called on the people of Kano State to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s second-term ambition, commending his leadership for promoting peace, unity and inclusive governance.
He praised Yusuf for bringing together political leaders, former governors, prominent indigenes and other stakeholders, describing the approach as a demonstration of mutual respect and commitment to the collective progress of the state.
The minister further commended Kano’s environmental sanitation, describing the state’s cleanliness as an example of responsible governance and effective management of public resources.
“I am yet to see another state that is beating Kano in cleanliness. In all the streets we passed through, you could pick a pin,” he said.
Umahi also advocated greater opportunities for engineers to occupy leadership positions, noting that their technical expertise, professional knowledge and problem-solving abilities could contribute to effective governance and improved infrastructure delivery.
He reaffirmed the South-East’s commitment to national unity and the Tinubu administration, dismissing the perception that the region was politically opposed to the President.
Earlier, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its commitment to infrastructure development, particularly road projects expected to improve transportation, connectivity and economic activities in Kano State and the wider North-West region.
The governor highlighted the scheduled commissioning of outstanding works on Section I, Lot 1 of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway, covering the Zaria-Kano stretch, as a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development.
He thanked President Tinubu for the infrastructure interventions and other support extended to Kano State, expressing optimism about the successful commissioning of the road project.
The Federal Ministry of Works reaffirmed its commitment to delivering durable, safe and quality road infrastructure across the country in furtherance of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
